To Cynthia Iorio, caregiving feels like running into a burning building: Not everyone has the mettle for it. She was 34 when her mother got the diagnosis. Bladder cancer had spread to the liver, lungs, bones and brain. Ms. Iorio felt it was her responsibility – her privilege – to be by her mom’s side until the end. The question was how.
